Bariatric Diet: Week Two And Three

Two to three weeks into your post-bariatric recovery you can start to add more substantial foods to your diet. Although your food still needs to be strained or blended, you can add more variety to your overall eating plan.

All foods at this stage still need to be fully pureed with no lumps of food leftover. Strain all of your meals through a fine mesh strainer to prevent seeds or lumps of food from getting into your stomach.

At this stage of your bariatric diet, most soups (such as cream soup) are game, as long as the larger materials have been strained out. Yogurt smoothies are also a good choice during this time. Any smooth food can be eaten in weeks two and three. So, foods such as Cream of Wheat or grits, thinned with water or skim milk and fortified with protein powder, can make excellent meals. You can even eat more solid foods such as tuna or chicken salad, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, or applesauce — just as long as you take the time to blend them very well in your blender. All of the food that you eat in this stage of your bariatric diet should still have the consistency of baby food.

Each of your meals should still be small at this stage. Do not try to overeat. To make sure that you are getting enough vitamins and nourishment, add a quality bariatric protein powder to your various dishes. You should be eating four to six small meals a day.
